This bill requires all public schools to display a framed copy of the Ten Commandments, starting with “I AM the LORD thy God,” in a prominent place in every classroom.
We oppose this bill because: The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” Mandating that a religious text be displayed in every classroom is a crystal-clear example of establishment of religion.
