This bill would modify the existing law that allows public schools to excuse students’ absence to attend private religious instruction classes off campus. Students would not be allowed to miss instruction a “core academic” subject – defined as English, math, and science in the bill. School districts would also be allowed to expend public funds only “for de minimis administrative costs” associated with the religious instruction.
