This bill would give preferential treatment to parents, guardians, and foster caregivers who adhere to state-enforced, non-scientific definitions of gender and sex. In custody, abuse, and foster placement cases, state agencies would be required to consider it a “positive factor” when adults deny the existence of transgender and gender-nonconforming children.

We oppose this bill because: Trans kids face elevated risks of depression and suicidality, particularly when their caregivers reject them. Encouraging adults to ignore their children’s needs is not only a cruel attack, but it interferes in the rights of families who seek to provide care for their children in partnership with their family physicians.
