On Tuesday the South Carolina Legislature passed HB 3114, the extreme ban on safe and legal abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy, sending it to Governor Haley's desk.
The reality is that abortions sought later in pregnancy are very rare and often due to heartbreaking circumstances for a woman and her family where a wanted pregnancy has gone tragically wrong. This bill gives little consideration to these situations by including no exceptions for victims of rape and incest or the health of the woman, and has such a narrow definition of fetal anomaly that there are virtually no circumstances where a woman's individual situation can be considered.
It's time to let SC legislators know that we won't stand for any more restrictions on safe and legal abortion. Wear pink, make signs and join us to rally against abortion bans in SC!
