This bill would require the S.C. Department of Corrections to educate formerly incarcerated people on their voting rights upon release. When a person convicted of a felony has completed their sentence, including probation and parole, prison officials would be required to provide written notice of voter eligibility law as well as contact information for the county voter registration board.
We support this bill because: Formerly incarcerated people are in some cases eligible to vote, and they should be informed of their rights promptly. For more information about the voting rights of people who have a criminal record, see our Voting Information Center.
