By now you have probably learned about South Carolina's planned execution of Richard Moore, who was scheduled to be executed by firing squad on Friday, April 29. It's also likely that as you read this, Mr. Moore's execution is still postponed due to a temporary stay issued by the South Carolina Supreme Court.

But regardless of the Court's intervention, the fact remains that Mr. Moore's execution has only been postponed – not canceled – and the state still intends to move forward with its first-ever execution by firing squad.

South Carolina's new law authorizing the use of firing squads is barbaric, and the state's decision to execute Mr. Moore is cruel and unusual. We must unite against this inhumane and unconstitutional punishment in the courts and in our communities.

South Carolinians across the state are standing up and speaking out against this injustice. Tell Governor McMaster to put a stop to this execution.
